How I do it... How this site is made...

his site is created using a Macintosh (PowerBook G4) using many tools. Mostly I use BBedit and straight HTML (just type it in), and I'm using PHP (a programming/scripting language for the web), and a Database (MySQL).
For Graphics I tend to use Adobe products; Photoshop, Illustrator and LiveMotion where appropriate. But because I'm used to certain legacy products, I still dabble with Studio/32, ClarisImpact, and Claris Home Page when appropriate.
This site looks best in Microsoft's Internet Explorer -- which really means that is what I use and test it against most often. In the early and mid 1990's you had to test for many browsers. But fortunately, the W3C standards are being obeyed more, and it is easier to make websites that look reasonable on many browsers; without constant testing and custom coding. I do test against Netscape Navigator/Communicator but I've almost written those browsers off completely as non-standard and out-of-date anachronisms. And if you find problems in them, I'll try to address them. I also try to keep my HTML clean enough to work back on 2.0 or 3.0 browsers; but there's only so much I can do -- given the choice, I will make the best experience for the broadest user-base possible. Sometimes that means incompatibility with antiques and anachronisms. Hopefully something better than HTML will come along soon, and more problems will be solved.
