We did Oahu, Hawaii in July

2006.O.1.jpgWe hadn't travelled during my MBA, so we took a trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.
2006.O.3.jpgThere's the Oahu skyline
2006.O.4.jpgAnd view from where we were staying.
2006.O.5.jpgWe did the obligatory Luau. What's not to like about roast pig and getting lei'd.
AZ.jpegWe did Pearl Harbor and of course the USS Arizona Tour. Reverent place, and very quiet.
2006.O.Malasadas.pngPearl Harbor, laying at the beach, all fun. But the entire trip was worth it, once we tried Malasadas. A local sugar-laden donuts. The secret to happiness is frying and covering anything in sugar.
2006.O.2.jpgWe did a Helicopter Tour of the Island. Melissa’s first time, I hadn't been since I'd been airlifted out of the Sierra’s. Scenic. We flew over the dole plantation, and followed the path that Japanese took to bomb Pearl Harbor. A helicopter is a bit more queazy-inducing than an airplane. By the end, we were glad to be back on firm ground.
2006.O.AA.png The adventure started trying to come home. Standby seating is tricky. We had one for me, and since Melissa was in uniform, she offered to “jump seat”. They said “Sure, go”. Once airborne they realized she doesn't fly for that airline (and wasn't supposed to jump-seat), since they also failed to add us to the manifest, it didn’t count. As far as the FAA is concerned, we swam back from Hawaii.
