Coronavirus
Political Cartoon by A.F. Branco
The Coronavirus is named after the fact that under a microscope it looks like the surface of the sun, with lots of little protrusions and bumps. These are series of diseases, but the one everyone is talking about for now, is the Chinese (Wuhan COVID-19, or SARS-CoV-2) that's going pandemic. Less than a month after identification (January 31, 2020), President Trump declared a public health emergency and began restricting U.S. access to non-citizens from China, and quarantined travellers on U.S. military bases for two weeks.

Coronavirus Correction - Look, the market reacts to fear and tries to price in uncertainty. The problem is that there are magnifiers, and most often the market OVER reacts to new information. And C-virus breaking out is new information -- so overcorrection. People have been asking me investment advice or tips. The basics is you’re trying to time the market, you’re betting on "when is peak fear"? (Not peak impact of the virus, but when everyone is done over-reacting). We have some positives right now both Israel and America have some vaccines ready to go, and because of China’s under-reporting (both intentionally and accidentally), the lethality rate is probably over-stated. So this is highly contagious, but not significantly more lethal than the regular flu, and we've been pretty on-top of it, both with trying to control/slow/contain, and with potential treatments coming quickly. Thus this is likely to go pandemic (and jump efforts to contain), as we’re seeing with communal transfers (where they don’t know the source)... but a lot of people having a had FLU isn't exactly end of days.

Coronavirus as hate - A Denver Democrat (Candi CdeBaca) re-tweeted, ‘If I do get Coronavirus, I’m attending every MAGA rally I can’, with the addition, "#solidarity Yaaaas!!". (Implying she wanted to infect as many Republicans with a deadly virus that she could). While others are perma-banned for saying that someone should be tried for high crimes before the legal punishment for treason is carried out, more direct death threats like this, wasn't enough to warrant any consequences. The difference? The party affiliation of the tweeter.

Coronavirus is a hoax - If you want to see what FakeNews looks like, look no further than a Politico piece titled, "Trump rallies his base to treat coronavirus as a ‘hoax’". (CNN, MSNBC, leftist polemics and politicians repeated it). The facts are:
  • The dems are trying to weaponize Coronavirus (and everything else) against Trump, and their water-carriers in the media are going along.
  • While Obama took 6 months and over 1,000 American deaths to react to H1N1 (Swing Flu) in 2009 (with the media silent on the slow response), while Trump responded within a couple weeks (despite China's secrecy) and put a travel hold on China immediately, and set up a task force to address it in under a month... and Dems called it “overreacting” and racist. Now they want to revise history and claim Trump didn't respond fast enough by being >6x faster (and with hundreds of times fewer deaths) than Obama.
  • Then the Dems and their media (CNN, etc) invented a story that because an Obama era bill to trim the growth in the CDC budget took effect, that Trump had "cut funding". While funding went up, just not by as much as prior years: but there had been MORE of a focus and more budget dollars going towards pandemic response, and Trump offered money for this issue faster. And if the Dems hadn't been so busy trying to impeach Trump, they might have been able to investigate and increase funding that they're blaming on Trump.
  • ABC reporter went on to claim that the President is “muzzling” officials (Dr. Fauci) in order to propagate some kind of cover-up -- which Fauci himself called B.S. on ABC, on the spot.
  • So naturally, with that hypocrisy, hysteria and disinformation, Trump mentioned at a campaign stop that the attempt to blame his administration for the outbreak is a hoax (not the disease itself). So MSNBC, Politico (Nancy Cook and Matthew Choi) and leftist trolls like Joe Biden, Bill Kristol or Mike Bloomberg spun it that he was calling the disease a hoax. Anyone who repeated this, sets my Bozo bit. Even Facebook and Fact Checkers called bullshit. (No retractions, apologies or corrections from the liars on the left). You get actively dumber (more misinformed) listening to leftist sources like Politico, CNN, MSNBC and ABC News.
  • Trump trolled them further by donating his 4th Quarter Salary ($100K) to the HHS to fight Coronavirus. And of course the moderate left replied that Hitler never took a salary either. Which fallacious, obnoxious, factually wrong, and typical.

Coronavirus timeline - Timeline:
  • 2019.12.12 - Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that a "new viral outbreak was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China.
  • 2019.12.21 - Chinese epidemiologists with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC) published an article stating that the first cluster of patients with "pneumonia of an unknown cause" had been identified.
  • 2020.01.02 - 41 admitted hospital patients in Wuhan, China, were laboratory-confirmed to have contracted the 2019-nCoV (Novel coronavirus)
  • 2020.01.21 - 291 cases had been reported across major cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai.
  • 2020.01.21 - the U.S. reported its first laboratory-confirmed case in the state of Washington.
  • 2020.01.24 - Japan, South Korea, and the U.S. all confirmed their second cases.
  • 2020.01.26 - the U.S. confirmed its third, fourth, and fifth cases: two in California and one in Arizona.
  • 2020.01.30 - the U.S. confirmed its sixth case, and the first confirmed case of human to human transmission within the United States (the spouse of another patient in Chicago).
  • 2020.01.31 - the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services declared the SARS-CoV-2 virus a U.S. public health emergency.
  • 2020.02.03 - CDC submitted an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) package to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order to expedite FDA permitted use of the CDC diagnostic panel in the U.S.
  • 2020.02.04 - FDA issued the EUA. IRR began distribution of the test kits to states, but shortly thereafter performance issues were identified related to a problem in the manufacturing of one of the reagents which led to laboratories not being able to verify the test performance.

Coronavirus treatment - We have some positives right now: Israel and America (Moderna) both have vaccines ready to come on market for this (pending tests/approvals), and there have been a few countries like Thailand that showed positive treatments with anti-Virals. And the truth is, this just isn't that bad (the death rates are overstated). So while there's the possibilities of mutations that make this virus worse, or that reactions to the vaccines (or their lack of complete effectiveness) might cause issues -- we've still never been as technologically prepared as we are for this pandemic. This is NOT the 1918 Spanish Flu.
