While Brokaw was on NBC (Meet the Press) and was making a ignorant and bigoted barb at Republicans (that they fear having brown grand-babies), and repeating a fallacy/FakeNews (the Mexicans are all Democrats), he accidentally told the truth about Mexicans and all immigrants (they should try to assimilate more), and suffered a shit-storm and was forced to apologize for the latter. The former was the real bigotry and insult to viewers... and ignored by the defenders of virtue.

Details

While appearing on Meet the Press, he was trying to character assassinate the deplorable Republicans by saying they, “don’t want brown grand-babies,” but to try to sound balanced about that insult, he also quipped that “Hispanics should work harder at assimilation.” E.g. it's everyone's fault but lefties.

❝ But the fact is, on the Republican side, a lot of people see the rise of an extraordinary, important, new constituent in American politics, Hispanics, who will come here and all be Democrats. Also, I hear, when I push people a little harder, “Well, I don’t know whether I want brown grandbabies.” I mean, that’s also a part of it. It’s the intermarriage that is going on and the cultures that are conflicting with each other. I also happen to believe that the Hispanics should work harder at assimilation. That’s one of the things I’ve been saying for a long time. You know, they ought not to be just codified in their communities but make sure that all their kids are learning to speak English, and that they feel comfortable in the communities. And that’s going to take outreach on both sides, frankly. ❞

I have mixed race family full of conservatives, my Step Dad is black, I have many cousins that are Mexican, I've never heard any of the family imply "I don't know whether I want brown babies". (They're more concerned they grow up unemployed basement dwelling failures, aka Democrats). In fact, if you compare Texas (Republican) to California (Democrat) you find that there's far more Mexican integration and mixing and success in all phases of the culture in Texas. In California Mexicans are for picking food, cleaning it (or your home) and preparing it. So Tom's slur is as ignorant as it is offensive.

There was also the ignorance that the Mexicans all vote democrat. While it's true that uneducated (less educated) people often do vote Democrat, Mexicans are more mixed than the igno-left thinks. While it's hard to tease just Mexicans out of the Latino vote, we know that Bush got 44% of the latino vote, Trump was 29% (and strengthening in polls -- more in red states like Texas/Florida). And the longer they stay here, the more likely they are to grow and learn how radical and offensive the Democrats are. So Tom was wrong, as usual, on his claim that they, "will come here and all be Democrats".

Of course the left doesn't care about that. They only got outraged because he pointed out that creating a culture-within-a-culture (Mexican communities with Spanish as the first language) might be a bad thing for them and the rest of us. The fucking "duh!" heard 'round the world. Of course I want Mexicans to assimilate more (in language) -- it will give their kids more opportunities, and it allows me to experience more of their culture and betters us both. But THAT was offensive to the far left. The real insult and ignorant bigotry? That's fine, because it was just directed at Republicans. The truth directed at any culture that immigrates here? That was offensive to them.
