"That's their job. [to appoint a replacement] There's nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being the president in his last year." ~ Ruth Bader Ginsberg
I don't wish harm on anyone, but for jurisprudence reasons, I'm glad that RBG passed. She might have been a nice person, but there are lots of nice people that shouldn’t be on the Supreme Court. She was on the wrong side of virtually all the worst rulings during her tenure. Her selfish nature was demonstrated by not stepping down during Obama, but holding out expecting a Hillary win. And her divisiveness was displayed if her final wishes were as NPR reported that we should ignore the Constitutional power granted to the Senate, and hold out until after the election to appoint a replacement for her. The nation has the chance to become a much better place (as far as jurisprudence/lawfulness) with her no longer on the court. It would be great if they could replace her quickly with someone who actually values the Constitution as written, instead of as rewritten by the far-left's imagination.
With all the outrage, we watched the Netflix movie “Cuties“. Something that causes that much outrage, I'm going to want to watch for myself. It was played up as the poster-film for kiddie porn. I wouldn't recommend it as it wasn't very "good", but it wasn't quite as bad as it's made out to be. I went in expecting to hate it, and get confirmation bias that Netflix was run by assholes, and left thinking, "not a great foreign film", and reasons for complaints... but not the end of civilization. And the Streisand effect will probably help it more than hurt it.
The anti-Trump, TDS-suffering Verge embarrasses itself trying to spin the significance of the Tik Tok & Oracle deal, as no big accomplishment. Either they are really poor at understanding tech, or they let their political agenda suffocate reason. This isn't as big a deal as if Microsoft had bought them, but it's still a pretty big deal.
Netflix original series basically said "let's put the case of 'That 70's Show' on a Colorado Ranch, and make fun of red-states". You'd think with that premise, it would be a disaster -- but it the first couple Season's were good. Then Danny Masterson got "MeToo'd" over "rape", aka having sex with his sleeping wife a couple decades ago, and she stayed with him for 3 more years. Then he was killed off, and the show lost its tone and wandered for another season and a half before mercifully going to the slaughter house.
On May 3rd, in Kenosha, Wisconsin Jacob Blake (29) is shot for being a violent thug resisting arrest, but a viral doctored video convinces ignorant bigots that a repeat felon is a pillar of the black community, and the police shot him for no good reason. Democrats and their BLM allies sensationalize the "injustice", and violent riots happen for weeks.
Time Magazine's Token Conservative and TDS suffering #NeverTrump'er (David French), wrote a piece that explained America is on the brink of self destruction. I tend to agree. But being that he's lost his mind with regards to Trump, he had to spin it as, "and both sides are at fault". Which isn't completely wrong, but they're not EQUALLY at fault. And that's important to understand.
Now I'm sure Emmanuel is a nice guy. He seems it. Soft spoken, educated, polite... his charity work is something he should be proud of. But he is woefully misinformed and preaching a message of hate wrapped in a candy coating. Though I'm sure he sincerely doesn't see it that way, bigots always think someone else is the problem.
Unhinged is Russell Crowe thriller about an "unhinged" stranger terrorizing a young woman after a road rage incident. Russell did a good job of looking and acting like John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield Lane (quiet, crazy type)... and as far as thrillers go, it wasn't horrible or great. Middle of the road suspense, with people occasionally doing predictably irrational things, and a few cheesy lines (groaners) thrown in. The most memorable part is it was the biggest major release to theaters during COVID. I'm not sure if that will help or hurt it. If you like thrillers done by a horror director, you'll probably enjoy it. If these aren't your genre, and they generally aren't mine, it's a reasonably entertaining 93 minutes... that will soon be forgotten.
Branch COVIDians (aka COVIDIOTS), are the enthusiastic Karen Enforcers of policies that they've been told work by the DNC or their media, but demonstrate no actual domain knowledge of the problems or skepticism (critical thinking skills) to back it up. They are the Dunning-Kruger's who believe the evidence against masks or shutdowns are conclusive: "the science is settled" when in reality, both are still hotly debated in scientific circles and there's as much evidence against both as effective as for. When cornered, instead of discussing the topic, they usually attack people, or post links to their favorite non-scientific source, or rarely, to a junk study that's easy to debunk.
While I sometimes argue with these people, the point is not to change their mind (their views demonstrate that they're not open to the nuances of reality), it's to get them to show to others that their consensus demanding tantrums are not based on nuance or reality, but based on a desire to conform to what they've been told to think (usually by the far left).
AP completely discredits itself by calling this "a rare diplomatic win". If a Democrat Administration had brokered a massive diplomatic coup that ended the gulf Arab blockade against Israel (or roadmap for one), and got Israel to stop annexation plans in the West Bank, they'd being trumpeting this historical event. But they're trying to downplay the historic event, because it was done by Donald Trump.
The latest double-face palm from USAToday was not over [their bad explanation of what a bump stock is] (or ignoring that people can do the same thing with a belt loop or shoe string). Then they went full retard in explaining what makes AR-15's so dangerous, all the accessories that you can mount (on most other guns)... including the dreaded, "chainsaw bayonet". Seriously. I thought it was a joke. But I checked, it was real article.... then they took it further, and they promoted it with a tweet and a custom animation on the accessories for a AR-15, again including the chainsaw bayonet. This of course, lead to a lot of mocking under the predictabl #ChainsawBayonet, including the sharkwithfriggenlaser, velocoraptor and a smaller AR-15 under your AR-15 accessories.
