2001 Ohio Bro Visit
We moved to Ohio, and when my brother visited (late Sept.), we did all the Tourist stuff with him. Which we kind of repeated when anyone else visited.
While in Canton we did a Harry London/FannieMay Chocolate factory tour. With samples.
We did a tour of an Amish Home/Farm. They explain the history/culture/quirks, and are quite personable and open -- it's not nearly as radical or separatist as people think. Believe it or not, they have their own website.
Not too far away is Zoar Ohio -- a German Commune founded in 1817. Known as the "Society of Separatists of Zoar", named after the Biblical village to which Lot and his family escaped from Sodom, they fled Germany and created a Communist Utopia in the U.S., dug their part of the Erie Canal themselves, and dissolved in 1898. One of the most successful and long-lived of the communist enclaves/cults in America (or the world). They have a website, and tours. Fascinating history that predates Karl Marx.
