Jack Phillips was approached by a gay couple that asked him to bake them a wedding cake. He politely explained that Colorado didn't recognize gay marriage (yet), and due to his religion, he wouldn't use his tradecraft to do custom work for an issue that violated his personal beliefs (he said he wouldn't bake a cake that would slur the LGBT community either), but he'd happily serve them and they could buy anything else in the store (he'd even make them birthday cakes or for any other occasion). The gay activists, which had easy access to dozens of other stores flipped him off, yelled, "Fuck You and your homophobic cake shop", and put the information on social media and sicked the Gay-Mafia (nasty activists) on Jack and the shop, who harassed him and polarized the issue (Real Hate). [1] The media misrepresented the story (FakeNews). The accusations against Jack were disproven (Fake Hate). The Colorado Civil rights commission violated Jack's civil rights by siding with the LGBT-Fascists, and was later slapped down by the Supreme Court. So the gay-activists sued/attacked/harassed Jack again... and lost again (Real Hate). They don't seem to care that Christians have civil rights too.

Background
Personally, I'm for gay marriage, and have been since long before it was cool. I think I first wrote about it in the 1980's, and wrote on gay marriage in California in both fights. But since I have a clue, I also believe that civil unions were a reasonable short term alternative, that gay-activists became abrasive assholes about the whole thing (and turned me off to their methods), and that Christians have civil rights too -- and should be free to say "no", as long as there is no undue harm. The cost of liberty is people doing things you don't always agree with, but are NOT criminal.

There's a huge difference between someone not wanting to make a cake for a gay wedding, and being a homophobe. Getting a mob of people to attack Masterpiece or Jack with a Yelp attack (lowering his ratings by people that have never frequented the place), is far more hateful, divisive and offensive than what he did in the first place.

Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission
The Supreme Court found (in a scathing opinion) that Colorado Civil Rights Commission was acting in "bad faith" and taking an activist position, and not applying the law equally. Heck, one person on the commission had called Jack a hater, for doing nothing more than exercising his constitutional recognized freedoms. Now retired Justice Kennedy wrote CCRC had, "clear and impermissible hostility toward [Phillips'] sincere religious beliefs". Of course the far-left activist side of the court, took the anti-civil rights position with Sotomayor and the infamous RBG both siding against religious liberty and free will. But a 7-2 ruling, and the stupidity of their argument (that the CCRC was fair in their actions), shows how far out in left field they are.
Double Jeopardy (Cakeshop v. Elenis)
The same day the Colorado Civil Rights Commission lost in the Supreme Court (June 26, 2017), a LGBT-activist attorney asked cake artist Jack Phillips to create a cake designed pink on the inside and blue on the outside, which the attorney said was to celebrate a gender transition from male to female. Phillips declined the request because the custom cake would have expressed messages about sex and gender identity that conflict with his religious beliefs. (As he had said before). So they brought it to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission again, and they found probable cause to believe that Colorado law requires him to create the requested gender-transition.
Fortunately, because of the first case, he had a pro-bono ADF (Alliance Defending Freedom) defending him. So they filed federal lawsuit against the State activists, won (that it could be brought to the fed), and the Colorado Civil Rights Commission dropped their complaint against Jack on March 5th, 2019. They were likely concerned that they'd get an even harsher ruling against their activism. [3]
Third time (Cakeshop v. Elenis)
For a 3rd time, leftist harassers (Autumn Scardina) are suing because he won't make a cake celebrating her gender transition (something that's not possible unless she gets chromosome replacement therapy). Autumn has asked for other cakes that were rejected such as a cake to celebrate Satan's birthday," with "cheesecake frosting" that would feature "a large figure of Satan, licking a 9” black Dildo... an actual working model, that can be turned on before we unveil the cake." or cakes with pentagrams and upside-down crosses.[4]
