Microsoft is a surprisingly good company now. But it wasn't always that way. In fact, it usually wasn't. They were ruthless, semi-competent, political (internally and out) that was about only offering something that was barely good enough to win a contract, then get another contract to support it. This was the Microsoft of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Then they lost an anti-Trust lawsuit, Bill Gates retired, they were getting hammered over their security (or lack of it), a lot of the old guard quit (called in rich), and they slowly started getting their act together. And here we are.
